Three years ago today, my life changed forever. It was January 19, 2008, and I had just arrived to Indonesia. I remember walking off the airplane and down the jetway toward the airport. The air smelled sticky and through the plastic windows, I could see orange pointy roofs and funny shaped plants. I wasn't even to customs, and I knew this would be an adventure.
It's funny how much I remember of that day. All the little details were so exciting that they ingrained in my mind forever. I remember that first bathroom outside the airport - absolutely disgusting. I remember getting into that first taxi. The steering wheel was rusty with no cover and no hand grips. The leather seats were ripped, and I could feel springs push against me on every bump. I don't think I said a word on that drive. I was too busy holding my arms into my body for fear we would side swipe the other vehicles. Driving in Indonesia is insane.

I remember going to a market later that night. A man from our hotel gave a small group of us a ride to a place called Pasar Umum Gianyar. He dropped us at the front gate and said, "Go eat dinner." Dinner, huh? Shouldn't be too hard.
There were dozens of food stands lined up in rows. I remember seeing a full pig head on one table and quickly corrected myself. This will be much harder than I thought. Fried bugs? Different colored sausages? I finally found a buffet: white rice and selection of unlabelled meat stews. PERFECT! I would rather not know what I'm eating.
An elderly woman sat at the end of the line and held out two bowls of spices. "You want spicy???" she asked. "NO!!!!" I responded a little too quickly. We both laughed, and she picked out the appropriate payment from my extended handful of Indonesian Rupiah.
I remember feeling awkward and out of place. I kept bumping into people and didn't know how to say, "I'm sorry." I was taller than everyone but felt so small. I had been walking around my whole life with the zoom on, and I finally backed up to see the big picture. There was so much to see...so much to learn. I remember the adrenaline running through my system. I was hooked.

Two of our very talented supporters wrote us to express their support for Peru:

"This past summer, we went to Peru on a mission trip and fell in love with the people there. We agree that they need clothes. We saw many people wearing the same thing everyday and other people wearing clothes with logos they didn't understand. If we gave one person a bracelet or t-shirt, than everyone else wanted something too."

When you buy this hoodie, we'll give a new sweatshirt to someone in need in Peru.
There's no simpler way to say it: CLOTHE PERU!
